The Designer shades fabric significantly blocks the suns heat, allows air flow, which allows your home or business to stay cooler, reducing energy costs. This special fabric is resistant to fading, mold and mildew and is easy to keep clean. The smooth action roller clutch mechanism is designed to provide a smooth even roll even when exposed to extreme weather conditions and the stainless steel tie downs are a stylish finish to secure the blind in the down position.

5Different colors have slightly different weave and blocking properties
By Nanciejeanne
I was looking at these blinds for a while and was having trouble deciding which color I liked. I decided to look for other images of the products so I could get a better idea of what they look liked installed. What I did find was that the "Designer" shade colors listed here are actually 1 color in the "Brisbane" series (Desert Sand) and 2 colors in the "Melbourne" series (Birch and Sandalwood.) The "Melbourne" are the 2 colors that WERE in Coolaroo's former "designer" series. (and the Brisbane used to be called "premier.")Now, you are probably wondering what difference does it makes if the change the name? Well, the Melborne ones are usually more costly than the Brisbane (and the desert sand is indeed slightly cheaper here than the other two.) This is BECAUSE the Birch and Sandalwood are more tightly woven. These two colors are listed on other sites as offering 92% sun blockage, while the Desert Sand is only 80%. The "Select" series offered here on amazon (which coolaroo now calls "Outback" series) also offers 80% blockage, but the weave is different....almost like a zigzag versus the perpendicular nature of the weave in the other two series.I am not sure if that 12% really makes that great of a difference, but I did want a the tightest weave for my very sunny back porch. I ultimately chose the "Birch" which is a sandy color with a few darker "threads." It is almost a beige color from a distance, you can only see the mottled colors up close.I really REALLY like it. It is such a nice upgrade from those plastic "bamboo" type of shades that are often the only thing you can find. I hung my 6 foot one by myself, although it would have been easier with another person to help mark the brackets. I just made a template from the packing box. I drew the outline of the brackets and screw hole marks on the cardboard with sharpie, then taped the entire thing up so I could adjust placement to where I wanted it exactly without having to screw multiple times. I just screwed right through the cardboard then took the screws out, removed the cardboard, and my holes were in the perfect place to attach the brackets.I do wish it were longer because my porch has a high ceiling, but it blocks most of the sun at 6-feet long. Also, with a high ceiling, the draw cord is not as long as the blind in the lowest position, but still long enough to reach while standing. The only thing I DON'T like is a spring tension bracket-thing that holds the cord at the bottom. It came pre-attached to the cord and I guess it keeps the cord taut and easy to work, but my walls are stone so I really can't attach it (I am not drilling into stones for a plastic bracket.)They don't show it in the pictures. I used it today by repeatedly moving the thing or depressing the release button with one hand and pulling the cord with the other, but it is sort of a pain. It mentions in the directions how to remove it to replace it, I may try to eliminate it all together and just have a plain old loop. I don't have young children who may get caught in the loop (another reason it may come pre-attached) and for my installation I can hook the looped cord out of the way.It also has a track in the bottom rail to attach 2 hold down rings. I didn't know they were included (and not junky!!) and was very happy. I didn't want to fool with strings all the time, so I just used bungee cords with hooks and attached the other end to a ledge near my floor on windy days. The manual says the 6 foot one weighs about 7 pounds, and it felt close to that, not too heavy, no need for a thousand screws (just 4.)Overall, I like it very much. It looks much more clean and nice than a cheapo outdoor blind. The corded pull makes it smooth and easy to raise and lower. Mine is on a porch, so it isn't in direct contact with rain, but the plastic fabric would withstand that...not sure about the mechanisms/brackets (though the brackets are enameled.) The weave filters out most of the sun, but is slightly sheer so you can still somewhat see out. (You see to the LIGHTER side, so don't expect complete privacy in a lighted room in the dark.) If it were 2-3 feet longer, I would give it ten stars!!

2Customer Service doesn't respond
By JJJ
This Coolaroo Sun Shade 6X6 Birch was delivered in a timely fashion. Although I have not installed it yet, I think it may do the job I anticipate it doing. However, it was delivered with a broken small plastic piece inside the sealed shipping package. It appears to be a fairly minor piece, but I don't know that yet prior to installation; so, I called Coolaroo Customer Service yesterday morning to have the piece replaced. (It would fit in a small envelope). After being on hold for a period of time due to high volume of calls, I was given the option to leave my telephone number and they would return my call. I called again this morning after not hearing from them, and they still haven't returned my call as of this afternoon. My concern with Coolaroo is that if they cannot return a customer service call within twenty-four hours or so, they either have an inordinate number of customer complaints about their products, or they are unconcerned about customer satisfaction. Either will make it unlikely that I will purchase any other products from Coolaroo.

3Not good quality--overpriced
By cs9254
There are no tie-downs or end caps and both sides of the shade are fraying on the edge from top to bottom. In addition, every time you raise or lower the shade, the plastic box holding the chain pops open and the chain comes off. This was not a cheap shade. I have purchased several Coolaroo shades in the past, the cheapest ones, which were $40 or $50 and I had them for years and years and never had a problem with them, so why is this expensive one a piece of junk?

5Elite.
By Brian Lange.
I've had this screen installed for a few days now, I've unravelled and contracted it several times and it seems to be fluid and sturdy. (I was weary after reading several reviews on a similar screen that said it was frail and broke quickly) But so far it seems to work fine. Installation was a royal pain, as the studs in my ceiling are almost impossible to find or non-existent. Nevertheless, I did some weight tests and I think it should definitely be secure. As "Movie Buff" from Nashville states, yes... the screen bar is actually a slight off-white, but I think it is for the better, as I have eggshell walls and when rolled back up (or when rolled out) it blends into the wall... with dim lights, the most noticeable aspect is the black frame around the screen which works great with bleed over the edges from your projector. The color produced seems great, although I have little to compare it to and of course it also depends on the integrity of your projector. There is very slight "ripple" effect from the screen being tightened to the pulldown bar... only most noticeable when there is scrolling horizontal text in the movie - which doesn't happen that often - and even then, it is not anything to cry about. (UPDATE) this either seemed to correct itself, or I no longer notice it as it has been a few years and I never think about this issue anymore. The edges do still bow inwards slightly, but only upon the first few minutes of unraveling. If you open it, leave it for a few, then watch your film - no problem.So... as of now, I am giving this 4 stars. Should it fail sometime in the coming months I will update my review, but as of now I have nothing too negative to say about this screen.2012 UPDATE: The screen is still installed perfectly, still unrolls and collapses perfectly, no signs of wear on the screen.

5This screen is everything that we need
By Randy
We bought a Sanyo PLV-Z5 projector, and have it set up in our living room. I wanted a pull down screen so our living room did not have to be a full time theater. I read a lot about screens, and in general, much more high end screens were recommended. Maybe the movie connoisseur with a more depicting eye would not be pleased with this screen, but we have been thrilled. Content has been very bright and vivid, and contrast better than any television we have ever had. We just use it for watching movies, and do not have any high-def sources, but I doubt it would make any difference. The only downside is that this screen does have a bit of a wave in it. After it has been up for a while, we have to tension the bottom corners to pull it flat. This is only noticeable in scenes with a lot of horizontal motion across the screen, and when we add tension, we do not notice it.Overall, if one does not want a fixed screen, I think this is a great screen, and I could not find a better price anywhere. One other note, my sister also purchased this screen and has been equally happy with it.

5Wide View for Semi Dark Room
By John B. Hoehn
Good price for well made screen. This is just a white bright surface no fancy lenses, not greyish, so use it in a partly darkened room, but you can view it from sides as well as front, so best for a long narrow room with viewers spread out all along the screen instead of in front of it a long ways away, like in an auditorium. It fits my basement recreation room perfectly makes one wall a huge screen that can be seen from anywhere in the partly darkened room.

4Nice Replica Of A Rarely Modeled Ship
By Davidp.
While I was perhaps overly critical of the first released version of this model ( the "production version" of the T.V. Enterprise, released in April ), I've had time to live with the model and get used to the flaws, so my opinion has improved. This model, while using the same basic sculpt as the previous toy, features different detailing to represent the studio model of the Enterprise as it appeared in the original pilot of 'Star Trek'. While still containing some errors, it's a nice representation of the model as it looked back in 1964, before minor changes were made and window lighting was added for the next filmed pilot, "Where No Man Has Gone Before" ( it would not be until the series went into production that most details would be finalized, and the memorable spinning lighting effects would be added to the main engines ).Some differences are extremely subtle ( the typeface used for the name and numbers, positioning of the I.D.numbers under the saucer, no paneling in the intercoolers on the rear of the warp engines, the blue color on the pylon connecting the saucer to the engineering section...etc ), and some are immediately noticeable ( the larger bridge dome, the extra markings on the saucer, the unlit and spiked engine domes, the larger deflector dish, and the rectangular detailing on the rear of the engine nacelle caps ). If you're a hardcore original Trek collector, these differences make the model worth having, and a nice companion piece to the production version. Sitting side by side the differences are very apparent.Art Asylum did make one noticeable change by adding lights to the bridge and sensor domes. The original filming model did not have any internal lighting during the filming of the pilot, but they are a nice addition to the toy ( and when they're off, the model is just that much more accurate ).While far from perfect, models of this version of the ship are extremely rare, so I would heartily recommend this toy for the price.

4A classic design - beautiful lines
By Lawrence M. Russo II
If you always wanted a nice looking display model of one of the most famous sci-fi ships ever - this is a great one - I am not sure if the color is correct (slightly a bit dark grey I thought space vehicles were more white like the shuttle to reflect heat) but I think its as close as your gonna get to having a really really nice model Enterprise right out of the box. Live long and prosper.

5A welcome addition to the Starship toy line
By Craig Wheeler
This is a great and mostly faithful reproduction of the Starship Enterprise as seen in the pilot, The Cage. The only feature that I can see is wrong is the Impulse Engine. As displayed, it represents the version from the 2nd pilot, Where No Man Has Gone Before. Can't wait to collect ALL the Enterprises. Hope they make them soon!
