Totally worth it...speakers make the system

Klipsch Heresy III Cherry (ea) Heritage Series 3-Way Floorstanding LoudspeakerThese speakers are an outstanding value, they are very efficient the highs sparkle and bass is taught down to 58 Hz, the cutoff, not booming and soft like some systems of this price.As an owner of the Heresy II's for around 20 years, I have seen the quality of the Klipsch Heritage line is outstanding. My Heresy II's are in another room, still in service. I also own a pair of Cornwall III's, they blend beautifully with the Heresy III as an integral component in my home entertainment system.New titanium diaphragms give the high end a true brilliance and clarity beyond most speakers in this price range, the mid range is truly magnificent (also titanium diaphragms) and taught, detailed bass all blend beautifully, the new crossover oversees this amazing ensemble. At 99db 1 watt/1 meter (up 2 db from the Heresy II) with a maximum continuous output of 116 db, the sheer sound pressure level will satisfy the most demanding home applications. These speakers possess dynamic capabilities beyond just about anything. For sound, clarity, dynamic range and quality they are surpassed by nothing in the price range, which is saying something considering the $799 each price tag or $1598 a pair.Although they are not inexpensive, they are truly a bargain, these speakers, if well cared for are a lifetime investment. Truly, my mom still has a pair of Klipschorns she bought in 1962 they are still amazing, my aunt has a pair of the original Heresy's from the 1970's and they still sound great.

This one's Sound Stage is just right. Unbelievable at it may sound, these Heresy III's are replacing my Reference Monitors which cost three times as much.As a former Sound Engineer and New Yorker who attends many live performances, I'm keenly aware of how real musical instruments and vocalists sound stage. This is where most speakers just get it wrong.Electrostatics make everything sound big, very big. If you're listening to a Symphony that's great but if you're listening to a Saxophone solo or a vocalist solo this bigger than life sounds unconvincing.Likewise with very large piston type conventional speakers. Listening to a female vocalist on a certain very large and very expensive conventional speaker, sounded like I was inside the performer's mouth. Her voice sounded as if it was coming from everywhere rather than a single set of human vocal chords.The designer of this particular speaker admits that he sound stages based on a performance of Mahler's Resurrection Symphony as heard at the Musikverein Concert Hall in Vienna. Small wonder that small jazz, chamber ensembles and soloists sound bigger than life.At the other extreme are Reference Monitors. Deadly accurate sound stage for a soloist or a even a small jazz or chamber ensemble, but listen to a full symphony orchestra, worse yet a piano concerto or choral recital, and the sound stage seems compressed, not enough air between the performers. When presented with large ensembles and choruses, Reference Monitors just sound smaller than life.Sound staging is where the Heresy III's get it just right! And this is where better horn loaded speakers excel. So if you enjoy live performances and expect the same level of enjoyment listening at home, you will have to spend many times more to find a better speaker.

WARNING, INFERIOR BUILD QUALITY

I had a pair years ago, sounded great and built like a tank with Birch Plywood, Just got a pair and they are half the speaker they used to be, i.e. they still sound great, but they are built like crap using MDF and glue guns. Save your money and buy a speaker from a company that cares about build quality as much as they do sound. Also, dont buy the excuses that they use high quality MDF and it has tighter tolerances,better resins, blah-blah, crap material is crap material.
