Great machine for the experieced detectorist
By Stephen J. Pearsall
Dave Johnson, one of the most highly regarded metal detector engineers in the county, went to his bosses and asked if he could design a new machine from scratch. Most new detectors are evolutionary, being upgrades of older designs, so Dave's bosses were a little hesitant but he eventually won his case and was allowed to design a new machine from scratch. One of the ideas Dave had when he designed this machine was that a lot of the good, easy to find targets have already been found by previous detectorists and that the remaining good targets were still in the ground because they are masked by junk. He wanted to design a new machine that would be optimized to pick the good targets out from the trash masking them. That design became the Teknetics T2, after some further work and evolution it was also launched as the Fisher F75 and then finally with a few less bells and whistles as the Fisher F70. (First Texas, who Dave works for, owns Teknetics, Fisher and Bounty Hunter). The T2 (and its brother machines, the F75 and F70) truly represent the current state of the art in detector design. Using the latest electronics they are very power efficient and need less power, only using 4 AA batteries instead of the standard 8 that most other machines use, this coupled with state of the art materials used in these machines create some of the most ergonomic machines around. Light in weight and still some of the most powerful machines on the market make for a winning combination. However the true test of a good detector is how will it performs in the field and the T2 passes that test with flying colors. I have been detecting for years and have carefully searched some of my favourite hunting spots with some very highly regarded machines when they were my main hunting machines. I have cleaned out those areas fairly well and so when I hunt there with the T2 the only targets I find are those too deep for the older machines. Almost all of the targets are greater than 8 inches deep. Some notable T2 finds (depth wise) from this fields are 3 Indian Head Cents at 11 inches, 11 inches and 12 inches. These targets were all locked on by the target ID system and rang up a consistent 82 on the VDI. The deepest find so far is a good sized chunk of a plow blade at 16 inches. Please note, the depth any detector can get is influenced by the amount of minerals in the ground it is used in, fortunately for me I live in an area of the country will low mineralization and so get better depths than those who live in areas with more mineralization in their soil, so your results will likely vary. The best thing about the T2 in my opinion is the flexibility of its audio system. There are many audio modes to choose from and like many experienced detectorists I rely more on the audio signals than the meter to decide what to dig or not dig. The T2's great audio system fits right in with this hunting style. In fact most of the T2's audio mode feature continuously processed audio signals while the target ID meter features a discreet or sampled processing so the audio system gives you a view of the target as the signal varies over time while the TID meter gives you a different one sampled at the peak signal strength. Finally, the T2 features some of the fastest electronics and processor of any machine on the market and this gives it the ability to have excellent target separation when hunting in areas where there are a lot of targets in a small area. This is great for being able to pick out the good targets from a sea of trash. In fact one of the most amazing abilities of this machine (and its Fisher brothers) is that unlike any other detector I have used, these machines get better target separation as the sensitivity is increased. This is the opposite of any other detector on the market. Usually as you increase the sensitivity of the machine, it becomes harder for the machine to separately ID adjacent targets, yet amazingly Johnson has some how engineered a machine that can get increased depth from very high sensitivity levels yet it retains the ability to keep targets separate from one another. Guess this has something to do with the very high clock rates on the microprocessor but however he did it, it is a real break though. The user interface of this machine is very easy to use and understand. Its got a great feature set and most importantly a really rich audio system. It is a great choice for the experienced detectorist. It could be a little frustrating for a newbie unless they have the patience and fortitude to stick with this machine until they learn to interpret the subtleties of its audio system but then there is the target ID meter to help them along in this regard. Its a great machine for the money and is able to stand along side the newest $1500 machines from Australia and Oregon (you know who I mean :-)

Great Detector
By Mark R. Hinrichsen
I just started this hobby and wanted to buy the best overall detector I could. Money really wasn't an object. After reading lots and lots of reviews I settled in on this detector. Many online stores were sold out of this detector due to the popularity and Amazon was the only place that had them in stock. The detector is fully adjustable and lightweight. It is very easy to adjust the electronics for the type of searching you want. The detection depth is great and response time excellent. So far I am extremely pleased with this purchase!

I purchased this product never having had any experience with metal detectors. I found this detector easy to assemble and set up was very easy. I have used this detector a number of times and have had some real finds. My brother and his son-in-law have borrowed the detector and really enjoy the ease of use. A great product.
