Great Reference, but Light in Areas
By D. Gardner
Llewellen is a guru in the area, and knows his stuff. Each year he comes out with another edition of his book, in order to keep up with the latest trends. He gives a professional, if general, discussion of all things physiological, and aims largely at those seeking athletic and show performance enhancement. He gives some solid information about balance and recovery with various "cycles" and "stacks" but leaves the reader to seek out their own combinations from the myriad of chat boards, magazines, and other references in the bodybuilding world out there. The drugs section reads like a Physician's Desk Reference on each drug. If you are into pharmacology, that's great. But the most useful sections about each substance for most readers are part of the drug's action, its affects and side affects, and (primarily) in the Men's/Women's sections of each description. He also--to his great credit--steers people away from discredited substances, like 2,4 DNP--which is a poison. [If you want to be dead, play with it. It is a cell poison. It was used to kill bugs in the 1930s, until they realized that human contact with it could be deadly--soaked through the skin.]This is a drug/substances book, with solid discussions on how chemicals work, work together, what to avoid, combinations that might be good, dosages that might be used/safe, stacks and cycles. It does address diet and exercise pretty well, but it is not a fitness book. If you want to know how to do your lifting/exercise routines, get a book or on a chat board that focuses on your goal--athletic, show/size, above-general health & strength, or use during later aging (a coming thing).
