5Love This Tiller
By Assiduous
Saw a lot of reviews all over the web before I bought the Mantis. I live in Chicago and have a small-ish garden out back approx 10-10. This little tiller works that soil without problem, and has helped with several other projects with friends and family.Only con that I have found would be if you're tilling an area with a lot of roots the tiller will tangle rather quickly and pulling the tangles can be a hassle. It is not going to till any huge area, but you shouldn't be looking at it if you have that big a need. If you've got small area(s) to till such as small gardens or raised beds or whatever, this will be perfect for you.The electric version is quiet enough to use at 7am on a Sunday without waking the neighbors.I am very satisfied with this purchase, and would recommend this tiller to anyone in a similar situation.Total Score 9/10

3Good. . .but not great
By S. Thyng
This is a good powerful tiller, but if you use it to do any serious gardening, the brushes in the motor will 'burn up' and need replacing. Use for no more than 10 minutes at a time, and let it cool off for at least a half hour (in the shade) before you use it again. I have two that 'burned up' after four months of use. I am hoping I can replace the brushes myself for less than what it would cost to return it under Mantis's one year guarantee (which I suspect they will be retracting in the future).

3Dies after a few minutes of use
By H. Black
I would've rated this 5 stars when I first purchased it a few years back. It was quiet and just as powerful as the gas Mantis it replaced. But unlike the gas Mantis which had lots of use for many years before it worked poorly, this one has hardly had any use (we were too busy to garden the last 3 years).Anyway, I took it out to use this year and it quits after a few minutes (yes, I cleared the roots etc, that is not the problem). I have to wait 5 minutes and then it quits again. Like something is overheating, but I don't smell any burning. For something I've used less than 20 times this is unacceptable.Bumped up a star from my earlier review because I found it works until it gets too hot. On a warm day, that does not take too long. You need to hit the reset button once it cools down sufficiently (best to give it some time, not just 5 minutes), then it works again. When I had an issue (reported earlier) however, the local dealer who was also a Mantis support place just sat on the machine even though they told me it would be a week (need it for spring planting). Mantis has a 5 year warranty on this model ... but according to them it ony applies if you bought the Mantis directly from the company. With this kind of support, i can't give this 5 stars.
