5Superior Rifle!
By Kilibreaux
Received my rifle last week. First, fit and finish are absolutely top-drawer in all respects. The black, zytel stock and overall handling reminds me of my Browning BAR. The bolt operates smoothly, yet feels snug. Trigger has 2-stage take-up and lets off crisply, and is also externally adjustable. Sights are well done...fiber optic inserts front and rear to gather light and create easy to see glowing dots--red front, green rear. It will accept any standard .22 scope rings on it's full-length groove METAL receiver, and the sights can be quickly removed with a simple screwdriver. The CO2 cylinder screws in easily and seats positively, though there isn't any audible "hiss"...once seated per manual, you pretty much have to shoot it to "know" it's working. The magazine is absolutely perfect, and so far flawless in operation. I've tested several different brands of .22 pellet and all but the Skenco ultralight sabot pellets fit within the mag's depth, though shaving about 1mm off the Skencos to turn them into tiny "flat points" allows them to fit and so far, all pellets have fed reliably under field conditions. Accuracty is amazing--simply amazing. I mounted my 6x26 50mm AO target scope--with the dials set to "0" and Crow Magnum pellets shoot to POA at 10 yards without adjustment. As one might expect, European made pellet rifles tend to be built more like "real" guns, and function well...and that is true with this one. It is a full-size rifle, and handles and shoulders well.Anyone who wants a superior .22 CO2 rifle that makes good power and accuracty out of the box, works as it should and looks worth the money should consider the 850 Airmagnum.

5Repeating Excellence
By Gregory Young
This is basically a fine gun...certainly the best CO2 powered rifle on the market today (summer, 2011). That is not to say it is not without its flaws and peculiarities. In the following review I will try to point these out--sort of "What the Manual Won't Tell You!"There are some very good resources on the internet that will tell you how to modify this rifle to make it even better (for example, [...]). There is at least one site that offers an entire laundry list of mods at a reasonable price ([...]). The rifle used for this review is not modded. It is a plain .22 caliber rifle right out of the box. I did add a UTG Accushot 3-12x44 scope with Accushot SWAT Side Wheel.I am averaging 638.7 fps (from a low of 619.5 to a high of 657.9) using JSB Diablo Match Exact Jumbo pellets (0.870 grams/13.43 grains) with a fresh AirSource capsule of course. Nickel-sized groups at 25 yards are easy.Accuracy will start to fail as CO2 pressure falls. I get about 20 eight-round magazines (i.e. about 160 rounds) from one 88 gram AirSource capsule, but the last few shots are a waste. It's a good idea to keep track of how many mags you have been through, and change CO2 before the shots get too wild. (It would sure be nice if there were a way of monitoring the CO2 pressure in the rifle, as many PCP rifles do.)Pellets should be loaded into the magazine with the metal cam facing up and the pellets nose down. Once loaded, the magazine should be held cam-side up at all times because the pellets are prone to falling out of their cavity. If you feel resistance when cocking the gun... STOP. It is possible that a pellet has backed out of its magazine cavity and is being crushed by the chambering action of the bolt.Place two drops of air gun oil on the AirSource capsule tip before inserting it. Keep the capsule upright and invert the rifle muzzle down while inserting the capsule. Screw the capsule into the rifle until it snugs up--then back it off one-quarter turn. When removing the capsule, bleed remaining CO2 slowly; if you allow the CO2 to rush out all at once it can freeze the seals and destroy them.Use high ring mounts to clear the rear iron sights, or remove the sights. I prefer keeping iron sights on the rifle for backup if the scope should fail.I bought this gun for the repeater action, and it fulfills my expectations...even exceeds them, i.e., it delivers good accuracy with a decent trigger feel in a light-weight package. I highly recommend the Hammerli 850 Air Magnum in .22 Caliber.Hope this all helps.

5What Are You Buying? German Quality & Accuracy!
By N. Kline
My 850 .22 arrived today and I am blown away (pun intended).I own over 30 air pistols and air rifles (not to mention more than a dozen firearms) and the 850 quickly rose into my top 5 favorites. Here's why:PROS:The all-around general feel of the weapon is superb. It looks, acts and feels like a quality product. And it is.The best OEM trigger of any of my 30+ air guns. I actually had an NG (negligent discharge) as I was bringing the rifle up to my shoulder to fire (still hit the target, but I wasn't ready to fire). I am very used to hard triggers on these <$1000 guns, but the 850 trigger is very light and crisp. It is a true joy to shoot. The action appears to be all metal, aside from parts of the safety knob and the magazine is partially plastic, too. The rest, however, is all high quality, well-painted steel. The bolt operates and slides smoothly. I haven't had a jam or issue yet with 100 shots fired so far. The magazine is easy enough to load and insert into the weapon. The sights are great! They are glow in the dark and provide great ease in identifying your target. Accuracy was spot-on, right out of the box, at 50'.This is my first purchase involving 88g AirSource rifles. I'm pleased with it. A high shot count with consistent fps.CONS:I personally can't stand synthetic stocks. Yes, they have their advantages, but give me a good old wooden stock any day. Had the 850 been offered with a wood stock variant, I would have gladly spent $100 more on it. You can adapt a wooden stock to this, but you often lose the AirSource cover functionality. The sights sit pretty high on the barrel. This is the first rifle I've ever found, I think, that would benefit from a cheek riser for me.Folks are complaining that the butt stock feels hollow and flimsy. Some have filled theirs with expanding foam from the hardware store. I may end up doing exactly that. A little more weight on the rear wouldn't hurt anything, anyhow. The safety engages after every shot. It's a politically correct, unnecessary, pain in the butt. I'm sure that can be modded out, but it's a frustrating "feature" to have out of the box.I don't expect any manufacturer to offer both left- and right-hand bolt action pellet rifles, but it'd be nice. If I could get this with a left-hand bolt, I'd pay $1000 for it.OTHER:Despite my CONS, which are more personal grievances and peeves than anything, you should 100% buy this rifle and now. If you are looking for a quality, recoil-less, extremely accurate bolt action repeater, you need not look any further.
